A treatment for skin ailments, based on a common weed, has moved closer to commercialisation with the release yesterday of trial data on clearing sunspots.

Drug researcher Peplin, which started in Brisbane and is now based in California, plans to use the data to get a green light from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

The tests on 255 patients showed a 67 per cent reduction in the number of lesions.
